Prof. Dr. Meryem Beklioğlu Participates in International Scientific Meetings in China and Explores New Research Collaborations
Prof. Dr. Meryem Beklioğlu, faculty member of the Department of Biological Sciences at Middle East Technical University (METU) and Director of the Ecosystem Research Center (EKOSAM), participated in scientific events held at Yunnan University and Jinan University during her academic visit to China. She shared research findings on lake ecosystems in Türkiye with international scientists. The visit also provided opportunities to discuss joint research activities and explore potential new academic collaborations.

Invited Plenary Lecture at Yunnan University
Prof. Dr. Meryem Beklioğlu participated as an invited plenary speaker at the 2026 International Conference on the Cooperation and Integration of Industry, Education, Research and Application, organized by Yunnan University, China. During the conference, she delivered a presentation entitled “Impacts of Land and Water Use and Climate Change on Turkish Lakes.”
Scientific Presentations and Research Collaboration Discussions at Jinan University
During her academic visit to Jinan University in Guangzhou, China, Prof. Dr. Beklioğlu delivered two scientific presentations at the invitation of the university's Faculty of Ecology.

The first presentation, entitled “Impact of Eutrophication, Salinization and Warming on Turkish Shallow Lakes,” focused on the effects of eutrophication, salinization, and climate warming on shallow lake ecosystems in Türkiye.
The second presentation, “Restoration with Nature-Based Solutions: Lake Biomanipulation, and Ponds and Pondscapes,” addressed nature-based solutions for lake restoration, biomanipulation approaches, and the conservation of pond ecosystems.
During the visit, discussions with Chinese academics led to agreements on co-supervision of graduate student theses, joint field investigations, and the development of new research collaborations.
Prof. Dr. Beklioğlu’s academic visit to China marked an important step toward enhancing the international visibility of limnological and freshwater ecology research conducted at METU and EKOSAM, while fostering long-term scientific collaboration between researchers in Türkiye and China.
