The local field surveys of our TUBITAK 2232 project named CLIM-SALTLAKES where we investigate the impacts of climate change in salty and brakish waters are completed. Unfortunately, 6 of the16 visited lakes within Konya and Burdur basin was found to be dried. Hosting lots of birds including endemic species, Acıgöl demonstrated to be one of the impacted lakes. During the interviews with press, our team member Dr. Mustafa Korkmaz pointed out that drought is a serious problem needing immediate attention for Turkey considering the 40 lakes dried-out in the last 50 years. Solution methods focusing on irrigation methods and land-use should be taken in action.
