In Eymir Lake, one of the most popular areas for nature lovers in the capital, the mortality rate of pike fish, which are protected from fishing, has increased. Dead pike found among the reeds washed ashore have caused concern. The METU Biology Department and the Ecosystem Application and Research Center (EKOSAM) have launched an investigation into the fish deaths in the lake. Samples were taken from the dead fish for examination. Initial findings revealed that the pike died due to reduced oxygen levels, caused by carp feeding on bottom sediments, where household waste had accumulated years ago, mixing these wastes into the water.
